Line Practice (with tools)

Tools:

Leadholder, Lead pointer tub, Triangles (set square), Ruler, Compasses

Purpose:

  1. Draw horizontal, vertical and oblique lines and circles with tools in the spacing of 0.1 cm.
  2. Draw the grids in 20*20 cm.
  3. Try to draw the lines without turning the direction of the paper.
  4. Keep the thickness and color of lines consistent.
  5. Keep the paper clean.

Tips:

  1. The order of drawing: from top to bottom and from left to right.
  2. Stabilize one triangle perpendicularly to the direction you want to draw.
  3. Rotate the tip of the lead to make the thickness of lines consistence.
  4. Always make the tip pointed.
  5. Make the marks on the other sheet of paper or mark with the needle of compass to avoid unnecessary marks.
  6. Always keep the tools and hands clean in order to make the paper clean.
  7. HB will be the most appropriate degree.

Line Practice (freehand)

Tools:

leadholder, compasses, lead pointer tub

Purpose:

  1. Draw smooth freehand horizontal, vertical and oblique lines and circles in the spacing of 0.1 cm.
  2. Draw the grids in 20*20 cm.
  3. Try to draw the lines without turning the direction of the paper.
  4. Keep the thickness and color of lines consistent.
  5. Keep the paper clean.

Tips:

  1. Use the line of the grid as the standard line, or another sheet of paper to assist.
  2. Segment a long line into several, lift the pencil, rotate the tip, and continue the line. To make the thickness consistence. Be careful for not making a dot at the junction.
  3. When drawing circles, use compass draw the circles in  the spacing of 0.5cm, and then filled the rest of the lines in freehand.

Other Line Practice:

Try to draw with different strength, thickness, fluency, or using curve lines and zigzags to express different moods.

Plan & Vertical

Purpose:

  1. Choose a plan/vertical in the size of A3 and enlarge it to A1 size.
  2. Learn the composition and shape of a structure or facilities and expression of spaces and natural elements.
  3. Observe the meaning of the components and the relationship among these in the space. 

Tips:

  1. Draw the grids on the original picture and the paper.
    (The grid size could be 0.5, 1, 2 cm)
  2. Use tools, but also draw in freehand if it’s better.
  3. Mimic the lines in the original picture, for example, the thickness and the shadow, using different strength or the pointedness of the pencil tip to achieve.
  4. Observe and mimic the pattern and the shape of the stone, bark, water and the leaves.

Technical lettering

Purpose:

  1. Practice in Chinese, English (both upper and lower case) and numbers.
  2. The content can be the sentences from books or the letters those appear frequent in plans and the verticals.
  3. The characters should be neat and balance.

Tips:

  1. Draw the grids in 1*1 cm.
  2. When practicing Chinese, it’s easier if draw a cross in the grid to assistance.
  3. For English alphabets, there are vertical and inclined (75’) letters.
  4. For Chinese, the strokes should be attach to the border of the grid.
  5. Keep the thickness consist.
